The state-run National News Agency reported on Tuesday that a Lebanese Armed Forces soldier and a fugitive were killed in an exchange of fire during a raid in the northern city of Tripoli. The agency added that Abdel-Rahman Ahmed Tamer, a wanted fugitive, exchanged fire with the army in Bhannine, resulting in his death and the death of a solider.
Four soldiers, including an officer, were killed in the mentioned attack, it added.
Last October, the Lebanese army engaged in clashes with Islamist armed men, including Hoblos supporters, in the northern city of Tripoli, Bhannine and other surrounding regions.
The army arrested scores of militants but many remain at large.
