REPORT: Consultative meeting: Presidential vacuum threatens Lebanon’s existence

Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi said that a constitutional amendment cannot be proposed in the absence of a president, noting that constitutions are usually amended in order to improve the state’s systems and boost the presence of a nation, not to facilitate the election of a certain candidate.

In a statement issued following the consultative meeting held at the residence of Kataeb party Chief Amin Gemayel, Minister Azzi said that the presidential vacuum is posing a threat on Lebanon’s existence.

In this regard, he pointed out that the debate over the security appointments was caused by the absence of a president, stressing that this issue is a constitutional matter that should not be subject to threats and intimidation.
