REPORT: Speaker Berri says will not remain silent over Israel’s attack on the Shebaa Farms

Speaker Nabih Berri said on Wednesday that Lebanon will not remain silent over Israel’s latest attack on the Shebaa Farm.

Earlier, an Israeli infantry unit combed the heights of Jabal Sadana and removed a Lebanese flag raised yesterday on a barbed wire fence, which was newly set up by Israel.

The state-run National News Agency reported that the flag, which was raised by MP Qassem Hashem and Shebaa town residents, was lifted by an Israeli army unit.

The agency added that sounds of explosions and heavy gunfire were heard in the eastern part of the Shabaa Farms.

On another note, Berri said that Lebanon can no longer tolerate further paralysis to the work of the cabinet, which in turn entails heavy repercussions to the country.

Berri’s comments were made during his weekly meeting with MPs whereby he called for the reactivation of the cabinet's work, stressing that the election of a new president remains a priority.

For his part, MP Qassem Hashem quoted Berri as saying that the ongoing stalemate has negative financial and political repercussions on the country.

Lebanon officially entered presidential vacuum on May 25, 2014 after the six-year term of former President Michel Sleiman expired.
