Locals and environmental activists hailed the closure of the al-Naameh landfill Friday, gathering at the waste facility's entrance in order to prevent Sukleen trucks from entering its vicinity.
In this regard, the state-run National News Agency reported that “Sukleen”, designated to collect the waste material of both Beirut and Mount Lebanon, worked extensively over the past 24 hours in a bid to collect waste from the assigned regions.
The agency added that the company managed to dump the waste material by 9 am with the help of accompanying security.
