REPORT: San Francisco eyes zero-waste future as Lebanon grapples with piles of trash

Authorities in San Francisco kicked off waste separation policies in a bid to reduce the state's environmental impact and carbon footprint.

The sorting process includes three bags: one for food leftovers, the second for paper and the third for glass, plastics, metals and recyclable wastes.

A fee ranging between USD 100 and USD 1,000 is imposed by authorities on citizens who fail to separate their trash.

This comes as Lebanon is reeling from an alarming waste crisis with the government unable to resolve the issue in a sustainable, eco-friendly manner.
