REPORT: Speaker Berri defers presidential election session to September 2
Speaker Nabih Berri postponed on Wednesday the cabinet session tasked to elect a new president until next month due to a lack of quorum.

Berri postponed the session to September 2 after only MPs from the March 14 camp and his Development and Liberation bloc attended the session.

Lebanon has been plunged into a political deadlock due to the rivalry among politicians on the presidential post.

The presidential seat, which became vacant after the mandate of President Michel Sleiman ended in May last year, has hindered the government's ability to tackle security, economic and social issues.
