A parliamentary session tasked to elect a new president was postponed after the needed quorum at parliament was not reached.
Speaker Nabih Berri postponed the next parliamentary session to September 30.
Commenting on the "You Stink" campaign, Future bloc MP Ammar Houry said following the session that he supports the movement, adding however that the occupation of the Ministry of Environment’s building was a “mistake.”
For his part, MP Serge Tersarkisian said that the protester clashing with security forces is “unacceptable.”
In turn, Lebanese Forces Georges Adwan said that the current government cabinet “has failed miserably in performing its duties.”
“Its greatest mistake has been failing to name things as they are and failing to apologize to the people,” he added.
Meanwhile, LF MP Antoine Zahra said from the parliament that he supports dialogue, but wondered if it will yield a result, especially over the presidency.
Several electoral sessions have been convened, all but one were postponed over lack of quorum. Disputes between the rival March 8 and 14 alliances over a consensual candidate have thwarted the election of a successor to Michel Sleiman whose mandate ended in May 2014.
There are several presidential candidates but none are willing to make compromises that would allow MPs to attend a session aimed at electing a new president.
The presidential vacuum has hindered the government's ability to tackle pending security, economic and social problems.
Riot police cleared “You Stink” campaign demonstrators from the Environment Ministry in Downtown Beirut on Tuesday after activists entered the building and staged a peaceful sit-in, demanding the minister’s resignation over the protracted garbage crisis.
