REPORT: Assir’s trial session postponed to October 20
The trial session of Ahmed al-Assir at the military court was postponed on Tuesday to October 20 upon the request of defense lawyers.

For their part, the families of the soldiers killed in the Abra fighting held a sit-in near the military court to call for speeding up the trials.

Several arrest warrants have been issued against al-Assir for forming armed groups, attacking the Lebanese army, and plotting the assassination of figures.

Al-Assir was arrested on August 15 at Beirut's International Airport while trying to flee to Nigeria with a fake Palestinian passport.

The anti-Hezbollah cleric had been on the run since June 2013 after his armed supporters clashed with the Lebanese army in the southern city of Sidon's suburb of Abra.

The clashes killed 18 Lebanese army soldiers.
