Israel steps up its international campaign against the recognition of the Palestinian state
Israel has stepped up its international campaign against the recognition of the Palestinian state.

The Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman who leads this campaign used the words of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the UN to launch an attack against him.

Lieberman threatened of a harsh response if the Palestinian authority continued its campaign and achieved its demand to recognize the State of Palestine.

Lieberman’s threats include preventing financial aid to the Palestinian authority and escalating procedures at the border crossings, as well as other measures that prevent the resumption of peace negotiations.

These threats have raised various Israeli responses during which the Minister of Defense considered that Lieberman’s positions are inconsistent with the Israeli interests.

Israel’s international campaign came at a time during which the initiative presented by the Jewish American businessman Alain Drashovic succeeded in reaching a formula to allow negotiations between the Palestinian authority and Israel.
