REPORT:Turkey struggles to accommodate more than 100,000 Syrian refugees

The displaced people of Syria keep fleeing to the refugee camp the Red Crescent has established in the city of Aazaz near the Turkish borders.

Everyday, a new tent is set to receive new homeless families who left everything behind and went seeking shelter after the clashes in their homeland reached unprecedented levels.

Red Crescent official in Aazaz Houssam Shamoun said that the situation is stable for the moment, however he warned of an increase in the number of refugees. Shamoun added that they will be in need of more medical equipment and humanitarian aid.

In this context, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reported that around 340,000 Syrian refugees are registered to date.

These refugees escaped to four neighboring countries: Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. The commissioner sources added that around 1,200,000 persons are displaced inside of Syria, stressing that they rarely receive aid.

With the winter season approaching, these displaced people will be seeking shelter in nearby refugee camps.

For its part, The Turkish disaster management agency (AFAD) said on Monday there were now 100,363 Syrians in more than a dozen camps.

Turkey said it will struggle to accommodate more than 100,000 all the while urging the United Nations to build refugee camps in a safe zone within Syria's borders.
