REPORT: A neutral rescue government, between reality and the impossible

In light of March 14’s insistent calls for the government’s resignation and the formation of a neutral government as a pre-condition to any dialogue, the parliamentary majority is adamant on holding a national dialogue as a prelude for change, and probably, for the formation of a government of national unity.        

MP Akram Chehayeb said that all Lebanese parties and leaders are “politicized”, stressing the need for a “viable” government of national unity, especially in this difficult phase. Chehayeb warned of the “Syrian plot” against Lebanon.        

In turn, former Minister Demianos Kattar called for finding "executive, not political" solutions for the current crisis, adding “we are in dire need of an independent government which would include ministers who have the required competencies and expertise.”        

This as everyone is aware that no government will be born without the help of a “political midwife” and no political settlement will be reached without an agreement over the electoral law.
