REPORT: PSP to propose "rescue" initiative

Based on his political position which he describes as "moderate", Deputy Walid Jumblatt said that he can communicate with all Lebanese parties and put forward ideas that lead to solutions for the Lebanese crisis.

These ideas were formulated by the Progressive Socialist Party in a draft which is still subject to negotiations in order to maintain peace and stability in Lebanon.

In this framework, Deputy Akram Chehayeb said to LBCI that all parties must work alongside President Michel Sleiman.

"Our political position might help us communicate with all parties and meet with them to discuss the Lebanese situation," Chehayeb said adding that the initiative will be announced soon.

One of the ideas discussed is working on calming the political situation to be followed by discussions related to political issues including a governmental formula that serves all parties.

The success of the PSP's initiative is linked to its acceptance by all Lebanese parties, and if those calling for the cabinet's resignation show no sign of discontent, the problem may lie with those adherents to the cabinet including Hezbollah.
