REPORT: Ehud Barak retreats into the “shadows”

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, said in an announcement on Monday that he would quit political life after the January 22 national election.

Currently a diplomat who participated in the Camp David negotiations, Barak served previously in the Israeli Defense Forces in the 60’s and 70’s and conducted brutal murder operations against Palestinians.

Barak also participated in the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 and the 1993 attack. He also strongly supported the 1996 Israeli attack on the Lebanese state.

Barak presided the Israeli cabinet for 10 years during 1990 and 2001. In year 2000, he witnessed the Israeli army retreating from Southern Lebanon.

Some commentators speculated that Barak’s decision to quit politics is related to the electoral surveys that showed the weakness of his party.

This must be the end of a second “Sharon”.
