Lebanon's Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian said on Sunday that officials "had failed to learn from earlier experiences for which the Lebanese people had paid a hefty price in terms of lives and property."

Derian made the remarks during a visit to the late Prime Minister Rafic Hariri's tomb to commemorate the anniversary of his assassination.

“Today, Lebanon, which is plunged into the abyss of moral corruption, political failure, and financial and economic collapse remembers with appreciation and respect the rescue initiatives undertaken by martyr Prime Minister Rafic Hariri, who rose Lebanon, and Beirut in particular, from under the rubble,” Derian added.

This as Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud said that he gave his directives to install power generators to light the memorial of late PM Rafic Hariri at the site of the explosion that targeted him and his companions in the St. George area.

Rafic's son, former Prime Minister Saad Hariri, arrived in Lebanon before daybreak earlier in the day to commemorate his father's assassination.
