Introduction to the evening news 10-12-2012

After his visit to Greece, President Michel Sleiman transmitted his impressions about the Greek economic crisis to the Lebanese ministers, stressing that the speculations in Greece were not translated as expected.

In this regard, the president advised the Lebanese officials to deal realistically and objectively with any financial or economic measure.  

This means that President Sleiman fears that what happened in Greece could happen in Lebanon as well if the ranks and salaries pay scale is endorsed without finding sources to finance it.  

It looks like the cabinet has taken Sleiman’s advice into consideration and therefore postponed the discussions concerning the pay scale.  

Accordingly, the Syndicate Coordination Committee announced taking escalatory measures starting Wednesday, while the Economic Bodies refused the endorsement of the pay scale to “preserve Lebanon”.  

In Tripoli, calm prevailed as the Lebanese Army continued its deployment in the area according to the decisions of the Supreme Defense Council.

Separately, State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr called on the Military Investigative Judge Riad Abou Ghida to expand the investigation in the case of Former Minister Michel Samaha. Defendants including Syrian Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk and Colonel Adnan, whose identity remains unknown, will be called upon for testimonies alongside the political and media adviser to the Syrian President Bouthaina Shaaban.
