Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai called on the political elite to spare the country the confrontation and challenge atmosphere which complicates Lebanon's relations and distances the Lebanese components, at a time when Lebanon is going through “the most serious existential challenge in its modern history.”

Rai’ comments were made during his Sunday sermon whereby he noted that he called on political leaders to create the appropriate atmosphere to secure the formation of a new government and the election of a new president.
