Introduction to the evening news 24-12-2012

Christmas is not so joyful this year in several countries, as sadness and grief prevail in Bethlehem, Damascus and Egypt.  

While Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Syria’s use of chemical weapons would be “a political suicide” for the Assad regime, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 6 people were killed after inhaling toxic white fumes.  

This as, UN-Arab Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi met with President Bashar Assad. According to Le Figaro French Newspaper, Brahimi suggested a plan that includes forming a neutral cabinet while Assad remains in his position but with reduced powers.

However, its look like the opposition is refusing this proposal and insisting that Assad must step down.  

In Lebanon, March 14 agreed to resume the sub-committee’s works to discuss a new electoral law while convening at a hotel near parliament. Speaker Nabih Berry’s response to this approval is still undeclared.  

Meanwhile, the issue of the refugees who fled from Syria to Lebanon remains on the top of the cabinet’s agenda expected to convene this week.
