REPORT: Netanyahu faces fierce criticism that could affect elections

Ahead of the Jan. 22 elections, the Israeli opposition group is trying to weaken Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The bloc would consist of the Labor party, which opposes Netanyahu's economic policies; former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni's Hatnua party, which thinks Netanyahu is jeopardizing efforts to make peace with the Palestinians, and former journalist Yair Lapid, whose Yesh Atid party thinks the prime minister has shortchanged the middle class.  

In related news, former Shin Bet internal security chief Yuval Diskin delivered statements against Netanyahu’s leadership over the weekend. Diskin portrayed the Israeli leader as weak, indecisive and putting personal interests above the state's. He said he was going public with his concerns before elections in an effort to persuade voters not to cast ballots for Netanyahu.  

Netanayhu expressed his concerns over these statements but exploited the cabinet session to terrorize the Israelis from the security danger, claiming the borders with Egypt are not safe and warning of the deterioration of the situation in Syria.  

Meanwhile, Netanyahu remains threatened by Hezbollah, Hamas and Iranian rockets.
