Nidal Darwich and Khouloud Sukkariya managed to take the issue of civil marriage back to the forefront, prompting a debate between its supporters and opponents. During his meeting with a delegation from the Maronite Association, President Michel Sleiman reiterated the call to respond to the people’s demands and find the appropriate laws for civil marriage.    

The Bar Association in Beirut praised the president’s association, valuing the initiative of Nidal and Khouloud which was not deemed illegal by the chairman of the Bar Association.   

In the past few years, the ratification of civil marriage in Lebanon seemed like a dream. However, this dream becoming a reality is no longer far-fetched.
