REPORT: Sheikh Assir heads to Downtown, authorities fail to interrogate him

Despite the fact that the State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr called on Sidon’s police department to summon Sheikh of Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque Ahmad al-Assir and ask him about the weapons he was carrying along with his partisans in Sidon on Friday, Sheikh Ahmad Assir headed on Sunday to Downtown, participated in a sit-in, and went back to Sidon without being arrested or asked about anything.

In this context, roads leading to the place of the sit-in witnessed enormous traffic jam since the Lebanese Armed Forces set 3 checkpoints in Beirut’s Cola region, Karantina, and Hazmieh.

In this regard, Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said that not arresting Sheikh Assir should be referred to the judiciary since it is following up on this file.

This as, judicial authorities handed over this file to the ISF who haven’t been able yet to formally interrogate Sheikh Assir before Sidon’s police department.
