REPORT: Residents in al-Qasr form ‘Popular committees’

After a series of attacks from the Syrian side targeting the border town of al-Qasr, the residents formed ‘popular committees’ in order to maintain security.

One commander of the Popular Committees said Shiite villages have been repeatedly attacked and some residents have been kidnapped and killed by Syrian rebels. He said that prompted local Shiites to take up arms to defend themselves.

On Sunday, two rockets fired from Syria exploded in al-Qasr, killing one person, noting that two more rockets landed in a nearby village of Hawsh, killing a 13-year-old boy and damaging two homes.

This report will shed light on the stances of residents in the town of al-Qasr and the soaring number of Lebanese nationals living on Syrian territories.
