Dozens of Israeli fighters conducted maneuvers over the Mediterranean this week, while warships carried out drills in the Red Sea, the army announced on Tursday, as part of its preparations for various "scenarios" with Iran.

According to Agence France-Presse, this coincides with tension due to the halt in efforts to revive the Iranian nuclear agreement, about which the Islamic Republic began talks with the major powers last November. The deal aims to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

The Israeli army said: "We are constantly preparing and training to confront any possible scenario, including Iranian threats."

And they revealed in a statement on Wednesday, that "dozens of Israeli warplanes conducted air drills over the Mediterranean Sea to simulate long-range flight.”

The drills were conducted during an exercise called "Chariots of Fire" that was scheduled to take place in May last year in light of the conflict with the Palestinians, but the bloody escalation in the Gaza Strip at the time, which lasted for 11 days, caused its postponement.

Today, the Israeli army confirmed that crews of “missile ship and submarine flotillas" had completed "a complex and lengthy training in the Red Sea."

The statement quoted the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, David Saar Salama, as saying that "this expanded training drill simulates different scenarios, including naval military superiority and maintaining freedom of maneuvers in the region."
