Visiting British PM offers support to Israel

Visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron has given Israel a strong message of support, rare for a European leader.

In an address before the Israeli parliament Wednesday, Cameron said Britain will stand alongside Israel in opposing a nuclear Iran and combating Islamic extremism.

He also said he would fight efforts to boycott Israel or try to "delegitimize" it. Some businesses and pension funds in Europe have cut investments or trade with Israeli firms they say are connected to settlements.

While voicing support for U.S.-led peace talks, Cameron mostly steered clear of issues Israel over which Israel has come under fire, with only passing criticism of West Bank settlement construction. He did not offer advice, but asked Israelis to "imagine" the benefits of peace.

He also mentioned his own Jewish ancestors.
