Chinese president calls for immediate ceasefire in Israel-Hamas conflict

Chinese President Xi Jinping called on Tuesday for an immediate ceasefire and "the release of detained civilians" in the war between Israel and Hamas, during a BRICS extraordinary virtual summit.

The state news agency Xinhua quoted President Xi as saying, "All conflicting parties must cease fire and combat immediately, end all acts of violence targeting civilians, and release detained civilians to avoid further loss of life and suffering."
