ECHR condemns France for poor living conditions in camps for Algerian activists

On Thursday, the European Court of Human Rights condemned France for living conditions contrary to "respect for human dignity" in reception camps where Algerian activists spent years after being evacuated from Algeria in the sixties and seventies.

The court found that France violated the prohibition of subjecting its citizens to inhuman or degrading treatment, considering that the compensation awarded by French courts to them was inadequate.
