Afghan donkey bomb kills policeman in eastern province

A bomb strapped to a donkey left one policeman and three civilians dead upon detonating in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, officials said.

The bomb was remotely detonated, provincial spokesman Sarhadi Zwak told AFP.

Officials blamed the attack on Taliban militants who have been waging insurgency against the western backed government since their overthrow by the US led invasion in late 2001.

Although donkey bombs are rare in Afghanistan, they are occasionally used by insurgents as a means to get close to targets.

This attack comes two days after nine Taliban gunmen and suicide attackers stormed a court complex in the western province of Farah, killing at least 46 people and wounding 100 more.
