EU chief at NATO: Europe's defense has 'finally awakened'
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday hailed what she called a historic spending pledge by NATO, saying Europe's defense industry had "finally awakened."
"The Europe of defense has finally awakened. Tomorrow, the summit will set indeed historic new spending targets for NATO allies," she said, as the alliance was set to pledge to bring spending to five percent of gross domestic product.
