Prison is 'gruelling', says French former President Sarkozy in court videolink

Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy said his imprisonment over allegations he sought Libyan campaign funding had been "gruelling", at a hearing that could see him released under judicial control after 20 days in jail.

"It's hard, very hard, certainly for any prisoner. I would even say it's gruelling," he told the court via videolink, adding that he wanted to pay tribute to the prison personnel who had "made this nightmare... bearable."
