France First Lady visits Mali

France's first lady Valerie Trierweiler kicked off on Thursday her 48-hour tour to Mali as part of a mission for children and women.

President Francois Hollande's partner accompanied the Malian First Lady Mintou Traore at the launch of a program supporting the residents who fled Gao last year after being occupied by al-Qaeda militants.

She declared that France will donate 500,000 Euros to the Gao region in order to stress "the humanitarian nature of the visit."
