Former MP Alloush to LBCI: 95% of Tripoli's residents have nothing to do with ongoing clashes

Former MP Mustafa Alloush said on Monday that no solution will be found in near future for Tripoli's clashes since Lebanon's security is linked to regional crisis.

Alloush's comments were made during a phone call with Nharkom Said TV show in which he asserted that the Lebanese state is captive in Hezbollah's prison.

He also noted that a political solution is needed for Tripoli's violence, adding that 95% of Tripoli's residents  have nothing to do with the ongoing clashes.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli. These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.
