Speaker Nabih Berri deferred on Wednesday the presidential election session until Thursday May 15th for lack of quorum.
Only 67 MPs attended the session with 86 MPs (out of 128) being the required amount of lawmakers needed for holding a constitutional assembly.
Earlier lawmakers headed to Nejmeh Square to partake in the parliamentary session tasked to elect a new president.
Speaker Nabih Berri, MPs Qassem Hachem, Antoine Zahra, Estephan Doueihi, Ali Bazzi and Ziad Aswad, Marwan Hamadeh, Nicolas Fatouche, Abbas hachem, Ammar Houry, Samer Saade, Fouad al-Saad, Assem Araji, Georges Adwan, Yassine Jaber, Tony ABi Khater Henri Helou, Walid Jumblatt, and Prime Minister Tammam Salam were among the first to arrive.
Berri held a meeting with PM Tammam Salam, MP Walid Jumblatt, MP Fouad Siniora and MP Najib Mikati prior to the session.
For his part, Liberation and Development bloc MP Qassem Hachem told LBCI that a new president cannot be elected if he is not recognized and accepted by all the Lebanese factions.
Change and Reform MP Ziad Aswad said that he came to the Nejmeh Square "to mark a stance and not to partake in the electoral session", adding that the presidential bid must not continue in such a way.
Lebanese MPs failed in the first, second and third rounds of the vote to elect a new president due to disputes between the March 8 and 14 camps.
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, who is the March 14 alliance's only candidate, failed in the first round to obtain the needed two-thirds of votes of the 128-member parliament.
In the second round, March 8's MPs boycotted the session, resulting in a lack of quorum.
March 8 did not yet officially announce its candidate. But the camp’s figures have reiterated that Lebanon needs a consensual person in the country's top Christian post.
President Michel Sleiman's tenure ends in May 2014 but the constitutional period to elect a new head of state began on March 25.
