REPORT: Gharib says UCC to take escalatory measures

Member of the Union Coordinating Committee Hanna Gharib declared Thursday that they have adopted policies in accordance with what serves their interests, stressing the need to maintain equality between all the country's sectors.

During a press conference held at the UNESCO, Gharib reiterated the UCC’s rejection to increasing tax, which will subsequently affects those with minimum income, noting that the rich should be the ones subject to further taxation.

Gharib pointed out that the UCC will continue boycotting the correction of the official exams, adding that they will take escalatory measures following a meeting to be held by the committee.

Earlier, the UCC had met with Speaker Nabih Berri at Parliament, where it stressed that the series of ranks and salaries is being used for political purposes.

In this regard, the UCC called for adopting a scale that preserves the people's rights, noting that the country will be heading toward a major social crisis should deputies continue their current performance.

Regarding the strike, the committee said that it will continue its movements, and will hold a meeting in order to decide further measures to be adopted.
