EU's Ashton to reiterate possibility of Iran talks

The office of European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton plans to issue a statement reiterating major powers' openness to talks with Iran about its suspected pursuit of nuclear weapons, according to a draft obtained by Reuters.

"The (group) has always been clear about the validity of the dual track approach," Ashton's office plans to say, referring to the major powers' policy of pursuing pressure as well as diplomacy to resolve questions about Iran's nuclear program.

The draft said that the powers, which include Britain, China, France, Germany, Russia and the United States, are still waiting for Iran to reply to a letter that Ashton send Iran on Oct. 21.
