Kenaan: No extra-budgetary spending as Siniora did

Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kenaan said that he does not hold any information about the creation of a parliamentary committee in charge of solving the issue of the $11 billion.

Kenaan said that the request forwarded by the cabinet to retroactively legalize the extra-budgetary spending of 8.9 trillion LBP is different from that of legalizing the $11 billion spent by former governments since no account statements exist for the this amount of money.

“There is no such thing as extra-budgetary spending as it was done by former PM Fouad Siniora”, Kenaan told Voice of Lebanon radio station.

Kenaan called on MPs not to cover-up for corruption, adding that the practical solution lies in deferring the issue of spending to the Audit Bureau then to the parliament session and finally.

Kenaan wondered why former PM Siniora did not resort to this means, adding that the $11 billion is the tip of the iceberg that began taking shape since 1993 through squandered public funds.
