Introduction to the evening news for 21-04-2012

The week ended with the U.N. Council’s unanimous approval of immediately sending up to 300 observers to Syria for a period of 90 days. The approval comes within the framework of a resolution that the cessation of violence by both sides is “obviously incomplete”. This international development comes amid the continued escalation of violence in Syria.     

On the Lebanese front, the cabinet is expected to shorten the period of its celebration over the win of confidence as it was showered with daily-living issues as a crisis related to bread prices appears on the horizon after no agreement has been reached between the minister of economy and the bakeries union.     

Meanwhile, the second daily issue lies in the increase in fuel prices as the minister of energy signed the price table today, 4 days after the usual date. Thus, the gasoline tank price was set at 40, 000 LBP.      

It is worth mentioning that the first round of French elections will be held tomorrow with Francois Holland as frontrunner after the survey showed that he is ahead of the current president Nicolas Sarkozy.
