REPORT: Change and Reform bloc says will nominate Hariri for premiership

Free Patriotic Movement head Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil said on Tuesday that Change and Reform bloc members will vote for former Prime Minister MP Saad Hariri in the binding parliamentary consultations to choose a new premier that will kick off on Wednesday.

“We recognize whoever recognizes us and we reject whoever rejects us,” Bassil said after the bloc's weekly meeting in Rabieh.

“We thank all those who supported us in the presidential race and who did not support us too,” Bassil went on to say.

Yesterday, Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun was elected president on Monday after around two and a half years of presidential vacuum.

His presidential chances had been mainly increased by a key endorsement from Hariri in mid-October.

Aoun's nomination had also received support from Hezbollah and the Lebanese Forces.

Binding parliamentary consultations for choosing a new Prime Minister will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
