REPORT: President Aoun says extending parliament’s mandate does not serve Lebanon’s interest

President Michel Aoun stressed that extending the parliament’s terms without reaching an agreement over the new law or its outlines will not serve the interest of Lebanon and the democratic system.

Aoun declared that there is still a chance to reach agreement over a new electoral law for the parliamentary elections that will ensure fair representation.

He also noted that any measure other than agreeing over a new law will put the Lebanese people in a confrontation with the constitutional institutions.
