Syrian ambassador submits letter to Lebanon regarding “Lutfallah 2”

The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abd al-Karim Ali submitted on Tuesday a letter to Lebanon’s FM Adnan Mansour from his Syrian counterpart Walid al-Moualem, concerning the “Lutfallah 2” ship and the ongoing investigations around the case.          

After the meeting, Ali noted that Syria is interested in reaching swift results in the investigations related to arms smuggling into Syria. He declared that Damascus is appreciative of the efforts made by the army leadership and security apparatuses to arrest this ship, subsequent shipments, smuggling operations and militants’ networks. He added that Damascus hopes that the pursue of such violations, which constitute a threat to Lebanon and Syria, will continue.             

Commenting on Syria’s envoy to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari’s letter, Ali described it as an interpretation of the events referred to by related Lebanese authorities, stating that “Lutfallah 2” ship was one of them.           

Regarding the Lebanese detainees in Syria, Ali stressed that coordination is ongoing between the concerned parties in both countries, pointing that the abductors revealed themselves. “We hope that the picture becomes clearer and the detainees return soon to their country”, he added.
