Twenty-nine people, including children, were evacuated from the rebel-held eastern Ghouta by Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) aid workers, according to a video uploaded to social media on Thursday (December 28).
The evacuation, which started on Tuesday (December 26) after a deal between Damascus and the Jaish al-Islam rebel group, involved allowing some critically ill patients to leave rebel-held eastern Ghouta in return for insurgents releasing detainees. It broke months of deadlock over medical evacuations from Syria's biggest remaining siege.
International aid agencies have voiced concern about the terms of the deal, saying humanitarian action should not be used as a bargaining chip.
