MP Walid Sukkarieh said on Tuesday that Speaker Nabih Berri asserted that independent Sunnite MPs must be represented in the new Cabinet.

Sukkarieh’s comments were made following his meeting with Berri in Ain el-Tineh with a group of independent Sunni MPs in Ain el-Tineh.

“The Future Movement wants to eliminate the others as it considers itself as the only side that represents the Sunnites,” he added.

“We confirmed our right to have an independent Sunnite minister according to the results of the last parliamentary elections and to form a national unity Cabinet,” he concluded by saying.

Sukkarieh is a member of a group of Sunni MPs that refer to themselves as “independent,” and who are insisting to be given a post in the new government.

The group includes MPs Qassem Hashem, Adnan Trabolsi, Jihad Samad, Faysal Karameh and Abdel Rahim Mrad.
