EDL contract workers continue their strike, beg for mercy throughout Ramadan

EDL contract workers removed burning tires and reopened the main gate of the company’s building in Cornishe al-Naher, however warned that they would continue their strike for the day.        

In a press conference held around noon they stressed that "public institutions belong to the people," adding that they are not "responsible for the company's problems and power shortages seemingly since Energy Minister Gebran Bassil warned against blackouts a year earlier".  

They called on politicians and PM Najib Mikati “to have mercy on their children during the month of Ramadan, and seek a solution for the draft law issue”.      

The protesters earlier blocked the entrance of the company’s building in Mar Mikhael with trash bins denying the company’s vehicles entry and exit. This according to the protesters comes in exchange for the delay of payment of their salaries.          

ISF members were present at the scene and aided in the reopening of roads affected.       

The workers told LBCI that they will escalate their movement in case they were continued to be ignored.           

The protest was not only reserved to Beirut.In Tyre and Baalbek,EDL contact workers also joined in the protest.
