Fabius calls for further sanctions against Iran

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Friday that Iran “hasn’t budged from its position” on the nuclear program issue, calling for stronger sanctions against Iran following a report by the UN nuclear watchdog showing Tehran intensifying its controversial uranium enrichment program.

"Iran hasn't moved from its position. We need to strengthen sanctions and, at the same time, Iran must make a gesture," Fabius told Europe 1 radio.

On Thursday, Fabius called on the Syrian government to guarantee the free access of humanitarian organizations to all Syrian residents.

In a statement before the U.N. Security Council, Fabius said that Paris wants to provide financial and material assistance to the “liberated” regions in Syria in order to prepare for the post-Assad period and encourage Syrians who are trying to flee to stay in their hometowns.
