REPORT: Syrians working in Lebanon and work permits complications

A severe debate took place between Labor Minister Salim Jreissati and MP Akram Chehayeb over the issue of granting Syrian workers work permits.

Including only a few Syrian workers, this debate excludes applications for renewable one-year work permits except for Syrians working in institutions.

The largest proportion of workers coming from Syria work in construction and agriculture fields which require work permits.

Jreissati announced that he has issued a second memorandum calling for the referral of all workers whose documents are doubtful to him and accordingly, he will look into the possibility of referring the documents to the embassy.
