Introduction to the evening news 25-02-2013

The Union Coordination Committee's escalatory steps paid off today. In fact, the committee succeeded in holding wide-spread sit-ins and imposing the strike on the majority of private school. The message was crystal clear:

First, they stressed that the series of ranks and salaries is a battle attacking the government, not schools' administrations.

Second, they have chosen the central bank and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in front of which they held sit-ins, as they are sharpening the speech against the economic bodies which are opposing the approval of the series.

Third, they are adamant on funding the series, by imposing taxes on banks and on real estate speculations, not by depriving the retired of their money or by imposing new taxes on those who benefit from the series.

However, the growing movement of sit-ins held in the streets did not entail new measures taken by the government which is facing the strike and security turmoil.

As the file of Assir and the apartments in Sidon has not yet been closed, the situation in Tripoli seems like a daily test for a fragile truce.
