Anti-austerity demonstration to be held in Brussels

European Trade Unions called for an anti-austerity demonstration on Thursday in Brussels to deliver a message for Leaders who are gathering for a summit devoted for economic recovery.

Thousands of persons are expected to participate in the mass demonstration that will be held 100 of meters away from the EU building where the summit will be held.

Soaring unemployment and biting austerity will top the agenda at a summit starting on Thursday, with the social consequences of the region's debt crisis now seen as the greatest threat to the survival of the single currency.

The president of the European Parliament, the EU's only directly elected body, warned this week that a generation risked losing faith in Europe unless rapid steps are taken to tackle joblessness and recession.
