Mikati voices rejection to being named as Prime Minister

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stressed on Thursday that during his mandate as Prime Minister, he was keen on preventing himself from being dragged into any alignment with any party, a step that would have increased the division between the Lebanese.           

“I had the honor of working with each component of the government and other institutions, with full responsibility,” he added.         

Mikati issued a statement whereby he called on all parties to commit to the principles of the national pact, in order to help Lebanon end the current crisis, stressing the need to form a national rescue cabinet which represents all the Lebanese factions.       

Mikati voiced his rejection to being named as Prime Minister, thanking the officials who proposed his name.               

In this context, he hoped that all the Lebanese parties will place the interest of the country above all other matters.                     

On the other hand, Mikati continued his meetings at the Grand Serail where he met with the Saudi ambassador Ali Awad Assiri and discussed with him the latest developments in Lebanon and the region.             

He also received the former ISF Chief Ashraf Rifi.
