Geagea: While you knew that resistance can liberate the Golan, why waiting 40 years?

   
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea responded on Saturday to the latest speech delivered by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah whereby the latter said that "all incidents taking place in Syria, including the latest Israeli raids aim at pulling Syria out of the conflict with the enemy".                

In this context, Geagea pointed out that "calm was mostly prevailing over the Syrian Front with Israel", noting that for 40 years, from 1973 to 2013, the Golan Heights have not witnessed any incident, adding that "Nasrallah delivered the aforementioned statement in order to support the Syrian regime, showing that it is targeted by Israel".                        

During a dinner for the Lebanese Forces trade unions, Geagea commented on the remarks launched by Nasrallah and those delivered by Syrian President Bashar Assad, regarding the fact that “the door for popular resistance in the Golan Heights will be opened.”                                  

“As long as you [referring to Nasrallah and Assad] are aware that popular resistance will lead to the liberation of the Golan Heights, why have you waited forty years to start it?” he asked.                        

However, Geagea stressed that Nasrallah and Assad know that this resistance will not lead anywhere and are only mentioning it now “in order to promote the Syrian regime as the pioneer of patriotism and Arab unity and the only regime fighting against Israel, in an attempt to distract the people from the violence and the killings taking place in Syria against the Syrian people,” as he said.                

Commenting on the issue of the electoral law, LF leader stressed the need to agree on a new electoral law since "it is impossible to stay under the 1960's electoral law which was buried", pointing out that contacts are being held with all the Lebanese parties in a bid to broker an law that guarantees a right representation.                      

On the case of the cabinet, Geagea called on President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-Desginate Tammam Salam to form a "competent" government, and then to let the parliamentary blocs assume their responsibilities by deciding whether or not to grant the government confidence.
