Margaritis Schinas discusses Syrian refugee crisis with Lebanese officials

President Michel Aoun informed on Friday European Commission Vice-President Margaritis Schinas that Lebanon is no longer able to bear the burdens caused by the continued Syrian immigration to Lebanon.

 

He called on the European Union to work to facilitate their return to the safe Syrian areas.

 

Schinas also discussed with Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdallah Bou Habib the issue of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the efforts made by Lebanon to confront this crisis on the economic, health, and social aspects.

They also discussed the issue of illegal immigration that the European Union is suffering from. Both parties agreed to continue cooperation and coordination in order to solve problems of a common nature.

 

Later in the day, Schinas met with Speaker Nabih Berri, whereby they discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the relations between Lebanon and the European Union.
