General Confederation of Lebanese Workers head Bechara Asmar announced on Tuesday that discussions with Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab and the concerned ministers resulted in reaching an agreement over many issues, mainly not lifting subsidies on flour and wheat.

Asmar’s comments were made during a press conference whereby he noted that the meeting with owners of mills and warehouses resulted in not altering the price of bread bundles, adding that they received a confirmation from Diab that this issue will not be affected by the lift of subsidies.

On another note, Asmar revealed that medicines were classified in order to lift subsidies on some of them, adding that medicines for chronic diseases will not be affected by the spending cuts.

Asmar concluded his press conference by stressing importance of the swift formation of a new government.
