Presidency: Calls for Jihad against LAF are futile

The Presidency issued a statement on Tuesday whereby it announced that the calls to defect from the Lebanese Armed Forces will not pay off, noting that the LAF already has a political cover.

The statement also pointed out that President Michel Sleiman praised the tireless efforts exerted by the LAF soldiers in a bid to quell the situation, calling on them to avoid sectarian wrangling.

“Lebanon is strong since it enjoys a brave military leadership which is abiding by political decisions,” it added.

In this regard, Sleiman extended his condolences to the families of the victims who were killed in the city of Sidon, and voiced his support to the LAF Commander Jean Kahwaji.
